Best Served Common cold is the first entry of three standalones set after the fantastic Starting time Constabulary trilogy by Joe Abercrombie. It has night humour, a vile cast and activity and so bloody and grim you can practically run into the spouts of shooting claret on the pages. What's not to honey?

Two years from the stop of The Last Argument of Kings, Best Served Cold takes us to the land of Styria – i that is ridden with war, expiry, revenge and many other unpleasantries. We follow the story of Monza Murcatto, on her path for vengeance after she is betrayed, her blood brother murdered and she is injured. All against G Duke Orso.
"Y'all were a hero circular these parts. That's what they call you when you kill and then many people the give-and-take murderer falls curt."
It'southward a simple and direct story, with a few twists here, but for the most part, is a brutal revenge story with characters who make the bandage of Reservoir Dogs seem like the practiced guys.
"When God means to punish a human being He sends him stupid friends and clever enemies."
Subsequently binging The Get-go Law trilogy I fell in beloved with the characters. When reading All-time Served Cold I institute it hard to grow a meaningful connection with the bandage, maybe because The First Police force characters were and so damn skilful. However, at that place are some familiar faces from the previous trilogy that was immensely enjoyable to be able to shed new light on them.
"That was the difference betwixt a hero and a villain, a soldier and a murderer, a victory and a crime. Which side of a river yous called dwelling."
The plot, although elementary, was total of fantastic scenes. At that place are some of the most brutal moments Abercrombie has written hither, as well every bit some *truly* agonizing sex scenes that I couldn't stop laughing throughout. All of the glory and romanticism is taken from everything and sheeted with a coat of morally gray paint.

Although not equally strong every bit The First Police force – not much is – I still enjoyed Best Served Cold. There are intriguing characters with dialogue then witty you could put a tail on it and call it a weasel. The interactions are clever and I expect forwards to delving deeper into these standalones within The Offset law universe.
"Sometimes men change for the better. Sometimes men change for the worse. And ofttimes, very often, given time and opportunity . . .' He waved his flask effectually for a moment, and then shrugged. 'They change dorsum."
4/5 – A fun read, with great scenes. Although the primary grapheme Monza was totally dislikable in a whole new level for almost of the time, I yet actually enjoyed this read. Bring on The Heroes!
